Silver News and a New Silver Contest!!!

Journal Entry: Wed Apr 16, 2008, 6:30 PM
  • Mood: Affection
  • Listening to: Tranquilize by The Killers
  • Reading: Quicksand by Nella Larsen
  • Watching: The Tudors
  • Playing: New Super Mario Bros. DS

Hey everybody! Long time no type! Wow, I can't believe how long it's been since I've posted a journal on here. I guess that I just haven't had that much to say really. I'm going on, day by day and making strides in my life. It's almost scary how my positive steps I've currently take but I guess that it has been something I have always wanted to do. Anyways, here's the headlines...

:spotlight-left: THE SILVER HEADLINES :spotlight-right:

:bulletblue: STILL WITH MY SILVERY GIRLFRIEND :bulletblue:
Yup! It's been almost a year and I am STILL with my girlfriend. Her and I have been having a blast and things couldn't be better. I truly love her very much and the feeling is more than returned.

:bulletblue: FIRST THE LIBRARY, THEN THE WORLD!! :bulletblue:
:evillaugh: Well it only took years and years but I have FINALLY got a promotion at my library. I'm now an assistant supervisor and am currently enjoying the drunken power trip I get every night. Mwa hahahahaha! Even now I have a worker fanning me with one of our more flimsey books >:).

:bulletblue: "CAPE" AND GOWN :bulletblue:
So, I'm FINALLY graduating in May and all I have to say is that I really think they should change the attire from a Cap and Gown, to a CAPE and Gown! I mean, how AWESOME would that be to walk up, accept your degree from the dean, and walk away with a vibrant cape flapping in your stead? I mean, I think it would be a good idea.

:spotlight-left: SPECIAL NEWS :spotlight-right:
NEW CONTEST!!!!!!

Hey all! I've decided to put up a new contest to get my art skills pumping. Below, I shall post a poem I wrote. The contest is that I want you to tell me what the poem is about. The first person to respond to this journal with the correct answer will get a free drawing or poem (your choice) from me that I shall post on here. Sound good? Okay, here is the poem:

Over my head, the sheets are drawn high up
And they are the first my waking eyes see.
Blinded by a shade of brilliant, blurry
White, I recoil like a newborn pup.
But steadily overhead, the hues soften,
And the white linen ebbs into pale blue.
That cascade of serenity that comes
With this color, that feeling of calm and
Safety won’t last though. The sheet’s cut on cue.
It bleeds and stains through, and my heartstrings strum.
The fierce red darkens…darkens in its last
Breath until the blanket above dyes…black.
Though covered in dark, I fret not. The vast
Sheet is holey with lights…not all pitch-black.

Anyways people, that is all. I hope everyone is doing well and things are going good. Take care and good luck with the contest if anyone cares to participate. Laterz! :D

gah!!! *falls over anime style* It's the first in a long series of books from Terry Goodkind called The Sword of Truth series. Check it amigo, you will not be disappointed..until you reach Blood of the Fold, but then everything gets better again after that.

Hey Johno! I had an awesome idea for the nightcrawler/spiderman drawing after looking up some references, as soon as i'm done with finals, i'll get started on it! :D
~buckwolf:iconbuckwolf: Apr 16, 2007, 11:40:55 AM

... well, i'm not THAT tortured. =p
~JohntheSilver:iconJohntheSilver: Apr 16, 2007, 9:00:14 AM
Yeah its difficult to get the pic right when it shows it at an angle. That always screws me up as well, LoL. But I'm sure if we keep practicing we'll eventually get it right ;).

And yea, I'm always haunted by my drawings. Any little flaws I see with just stay in the back of my mind forever, LoL. We are tortured souls.

~buckwolf:iconbuckwolf: Apr 13, 2007, 4:54:28 PM
that is quite possible, i think the problem is that in the reference pic, we're kinda looking from down to up? i dunno if that makes sense, but we're looking from an angle, and i have problems with drawing things from an angle, LOL. i definitely need to practice more.

i usually strive with the artwork too, unless it's done and i've finalized, like in my brain, it's done. then i don't touch it and whatever that bugs me will have to stay there and haunt me until i can do better in the next drawing, lol.
~JohntheSilver:iconJohntheSilver: Apr 13, 2007, 10:27:58 AM
Your welcome! But actually I think that the jaw came out great. To me, it just looks like either there is took much of her forehead showing or her eyes are too low.

LoL, for artists such as us, we are our own worst critics. I go through a lot of alterations with me drawings too. I keep staring at them and seeing little flaws that I HAVE to fix or I won't rest comfortably, LoL.

~buckwolf:iconbuckwolf: Apr 11, 2007, 12:11:58 PM
yeah? maybe. i personally thing i made her jaw a bit too small, since originally i made it too big and tried to change it... but thanks!
~JohntheSilver:iconJohntheSilver: Apr 11, 2007, 8:32:33 AM
Yeah your Lucy Lawless came out pretty good. I liked it! Though a bit too much for her forehead shows I think. But it was awesome nontheless. Your ability to put in the details is great! =D

you never know until you've tried! although i understand the feeling... but i'm trying to get myself out of it, after all, practice makes perfect!
i was actually terrified when i started drawing lucy lawless, and i'm kinda not satisfied with it, but at least i feel like i've partially captured her, lol.
~JohntheSilver:iconJohntheSilver: Apr 9, 2007, 8:23:59 AM
LoL you're welcome. And yes, I do like him but i guess I never attempted to draw him because I never believed that I had to skill to do it. Maybe I should try some day. LoL. =D
